Every concrete job starts below the concrete. Williams Concrete Services handles the small excavating and grading that comes with our pours — cutting out soft subgrade, bringing in and compacting fill, setting drainage fall, and finish-grading the site so water goes where it should. Because the same crew grades the site and pours the slab, there is no finger-pointing between an excavator and a concrete contractor when something moves.
We take on stand-alone grading work too: fixing a yard that ponds against the foundation, re-grading a gravel drive, cutting in a building pad for a shop or garage, or cleaning up a lot before a builder starts. If the job needs a dozer fleet and a month of dirt work, we will tell you it is bigger than us — but for the residential and light commercial prep that comes before concrete, we are set up for it.
What's included
Site prep and excavation for driveways, slabs, patios and foundations
Cut and fill to establish correct grade and drainage fall
Subgrade correction — undercutting soft clay and rebuilding with compacted stone
Building pads for shops, garages, barns and additions
Drainage correction: swales, re-grading away from foundations, culvert and driveway tie-ins
Gravel drive re-grading, widening and stone topdressing
Tear-out excavation for concrete removal and replacement jobs
Haul-off of spoil and old material included in the scope
Why the same crew should grade and pour
Most slab failures are base failures. When one company grades and another pours, each can blame the other when the slab settles. When we do both, the base is built to our own standard because we warranty what goes on top of it.
Middle Tennessee clay and rock
Sumner County ground swings between expansive clay and solid limestone, sometimes on the same lot. Thirty years of digging in these soils means we bid the ground we actually find, not the ground we hoped for.
What this costs
Grading and excavating is priced by the scope: how much material moves, what has to be hauled in or out, access for equipment, and whether it is stand-alone work or part of a concrete job. Combined grading-and-pour jobs are quoted as one price.
Do you do grading without a concrete job attached?
Yes. Drainage correction, building pads, gravel drive re-grading and lot cleanup are all stand-alone work we take on across Sumner County and Middle Tennessee.
Can you fix water pooling in my yard or against my house?
Usually, yes. We re-grade to establish fall away from the structure and cut swales where the water needs a path. We look at the site first and tell you whether grading will solve it or whether you need drainage pipe too.
Do you haul away the dirt and old material?
Yes. Spoil, old concrete and debris haul-off is included in the written scope — you are not left with a pile in the yard.
How big a job will you take?
Residential and light commercial prep: driveways, pads, shops, garages, drainage and tear-outs. If your project needs mass excavation or site development, we will tell you up front and point you toward the right size of contractor.
